The Who Marks 50th anniversary Sets Out North American Tour

The Who has just announced their upcoming 50th anniversary with a massive tour of North America on 2015.The other half,the surviving members singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist Pete Townshend have stated the fact that this will be the beginning of a long goodbye.Perhaps retiring from the music scene along with the other heroes of sixties and seventies rock music who preceded them.

The Who were known to be the destroyers of expensive hardware along with the eccentric antics of its drummer Keith Moon and the windmill style of its guitarist Pete Townshend,thus started the trend of smashing guitars and blowing up the stage with pyrotechnics that was followed later on by bands such as Nirvana,Kiss and the Smashing Pumpkins.Moon died in 1978 following an overdose on sleeping pills,he was replaced by Kenny Jones of the Faces until 1982 when Townshend decided to break up the group as a touring act.Bass player John Entwistle died in 2002 during their US tour.The Who is one of the most influential rock groups the world has ever known.

FAREWELL JACK: JACK BRUCE (May 14,1943-October 25,2014)

Rock fans all over the world were greeted with a shock this morning over the sudden death of Cream bass player Jack Bruce.A message on his own facebook page has confirmed the once speculated Morgan Freeman type of hoax for the 71 year old rocker:

“It is with great sadness that we, Jack’s family, announce the passing of our beloved Jack: husband, father, granddad, and all round legend. The world of music will be a poorer place without him, but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts.”

Several obituaries including that of premiere rock magazine Rolling Stone made tributes to Bruce who became known for his virtuosity alongside Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker.Though his fb page and website didn't actually mentioned the cause of his death,some sites like those of the Associated Press and Wikipedia were attributing his sudden demise to liver disease.


Born in Scotland,Bruce was known for his trademark:a fretless electric bass.His virtuosity got him several gigs with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers where he met his friend and bandmate Eric Clapton.Once interviewed in a magazine he said he preferred playing the bass over the reason that he finds it easier to play and regarded the electric guitar as the 'bastard instrument'.Cream has been known for inventing the rock power trio which was later adopted by latter day bands such as Nirvana and Silverchair.The band existed for only more than two years but the impact and influence that they had left in the music business is conspicous to the fact that their reunion tour in 2005 grossed a record breaking number of audiences most of which were young people who weren't even born yet during the band's hey day.
